You are welcome to SuPer’s activities
Over a year ago, SuPer started the Vimma activity, i.e. the network activities of foreign-language speakers.
The purpose of Vimma is to help workers with immigrant backgrounds to become part of the union’s activities.
Vimma activities are also open to others interested in the matter. There are approximately four meetings per year at SuPer’s office. Now, the Vimma network operates in the capital region of Helsinki.
During the year, joint network meetings have become warm and familiar. This has been made possible by sufficient time and regular meetings. The same participants have come back again and again. That’s a good sign.
The highlight of this spring was the Vimma group’s “spring trip” to the regular spring meeting of the Helsinki outpatient care unit (Helavo ry). The purpose of the tour was to show concretely what is happening at the meeting of the local union branch, what matters are discussed there and who the participants are. It was great to see how well the local union branch received the group.
The dinner included wonderful chatter, joyful laughter and casual chatter from different cultures and families. At the same time, it was a joy to hear how much valuable information the native Finns had about working life and how they shared that information with foreign-language speakers as well. For this reason, it is important to be part of the SuPer group.
It is important that people meet each other as peers and together form a group where everyone can be heard.
Could such network meetings in the future become part of the activities of local union branches?
This kind of communal activity is the best integration activity and SuPer together with its members makes it possible.
It’s great that SuPer is building a new activity that makes a difference.
